Biography
Lauren Andreu is a Cuban and Puerto-Rican-American visual artist and clinical therapist living in Bluffton, South Carolina. She has been engaged in advocacy and organizing work with Latino communities domestically and abroad for the past ten years. Her artwork is influenced by her interest in the triumphs, challenges, and mysteries of human nature. She believes a person’s innermost desire is to be known and hopes her work inspires the viewer to look more deeply at people, at life, and at themselves.
Creative Interpretation
Alma’s love story is one that might make you believe in God if you did not already. My painting is about two people who never stopped reaching out to each other across time, distance and circumstances. The sunrise is the hope that Alma and Mario didn’t know would be waiting for them. I wanted to convey almost a spiritual mood through the transparent textures and color choices. I imagine their love was deemed worthy by the universe so that nothing could stop them from being together. I want people to look at the painting and see the longing and beauty of love, the disappointment and fear of separation, and the hope of a future possibility. The title of the painting comes from the book The Alchemist written by Paolo Coelho, which says, “and, when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it.”

Biografía
Lauren Andreu es una artista visual y terapeuta clínica de origen cubano-puertorriqueño-americano que reside en Bluffton, Carolina del Sur. Durante los últimos diez años ha participado en actividades de promoción y organización con la comunidad latina en el país y en el extranjero. Su obra artística está marcada por su interés en los triunfos, desafíos y misterios de la naturaleza humana. Cree que el deseo más íntimo de una persona es ser conocido y entendido y espera que su trabajo inspire al espectador a mirar más profundamente a las personas, a la vida y a sí mismos.
Interpretación creativa
La historia de amor de Alma es una que podría hacerte creer que Dios existe, si no estás convencido aún. Mi pintura trata de dos personas que nunca dejaron de acercarse el uno al otro a través del tiempo, la distancia y las circunstancias. El amanecer es la esperanza que Alma y Mario no sabían que los estaría esperando. Quería transmitir un estado de ánimo casi espiritual a través de las texturas transparentes y la elección de los colores. Imagino que su amor fue considerado digno por el universo para que nada pudiera evitar que estén juntos. Quiero que la gente mire la pintura y vea el anhelo y la belleza del amor, la desilusión y el miedo a la separación, y la esperanza de una posibilidad futura. El título de la pintura proviene del libro El Alquimista escrito por Paolo Coelho, que dice: “y, cuando quieres algo, todo el universo conspira para ayudarte a lograrlo.”
