Biography
Felix Maceda-Baizabal was born in 1984 in Veracruz, Mexico. He resides in Pawley’s Island, South Carolina where he divides his time between his work in a restaurant and his creative pursuits. At an early age, he began to draw with passion, and at sixteen, he took painting classes at the Casa de la Cultura de la Ciudad de Cuautla, Morelos, México. At nineteen, he moved to South Carolina, United States. In 2012, his work was selected for inclusion in an exhibit at the Rice Museum in Georgetown, South Carolina. Later in 2016, he participated in a collective exhibition organized by the Mexican Consulate in Raleigh, North Carolina. Felix is colorblind and thanks God and his people for helping him pursue his dream to capture color in his work.
Creative Interpretation
I, Félix Maceda-Baizabal have the great honor of expressing in painting a part of the life of this great woman named Carmela and her working childhood with whose story I identified from the moment I heard it. The story unfolds from the center of the painting where Carmela and her father are seen farming a grueling land with lots of love. From a young age, she grows corn and collects other fruits and seeds. At the end of the day she rests her fatigue and contemplates the shade of a large peach tree next to the ocotales, but in her mind, she has the curiosity to know more and cross that border toward the land of opportunity. Since that time to date she has engraved in her heart this difficult and beautiful childhood at the same time she never forgets and dignifies her people, her native language, the Mixteco and has mastered the Spanish, which she was fearful to learn. The teacher Antonina and her beautiful singing with the flower that stands out colorful and as strong as the murillo and the ocote that form the wings of the wooden butterfly. Both Carmela and I always proudly remember our roots.

Biografía
Félix Maceda-Baizabal nació en 1984 en Veracruz, México y reside en Pawley’s Island, Carolina del Sur donde divide su tiempo entre su trabajo en un restaurante y su obra creativa. Desde su infancia comenzó a dibujar con pasión. A los dieciséis años tomó clases de pintura en la Casa de la Cultura de la Ciudad de Cuautla, Morelos México. A los diecinueve años emigró a Carolina del Sur, Estados Unidos. En el año 2012 su obra se expuso en The Rice Museum en Georgetown, Carolina del Sur. Posteriormente en 2016 participó en una exposición colectiva organizada por el Consulado Mexicano en Raleigh, Carolina del Norte. Maceda Baizabal es daltónico y agradece a la vida, a Dios y a su gente por ayudarlo en su sueño de plasmar color en su obra.
Interpretación creativa
Yo, Félix Maceda-Baizabal tengo el gran honor de plasmar en pintura una parte de la vida de esta gran mujer de nombre Carmela y su infancia trabajadora con la cual me identifico desde el momento que la escuché. La historia se desenvuelve desde el centro del cuadro donde se ve a Carmela y su padre cultivando unas agotadoras tierras con mucho amor. Donde desde corta edad ella cultiva el maíz y recoge otras frutas y semillas, al terminar la jornada ella reposa su cansancio y contempla la sombra de un gran árbol de durazno junto a los ocotales, pero en su mente anida la curiosidad por conocer y cruzar esa frontera de la oportunidad. Y desde aquel tiempo hasta la fecha lleva grabada en su corazón su infancia difícil y bonita a la vez. Sin olvidar y poniendo en alto su a su gente, su idioma natal que es el Mixteco y dominando el español, el cual en un principio le daba miedo aprender. La maestra Antonina y su canto hermoso con la flor que resalta colorida y tan fuerte como el murillo y el ocote que forman las alas de la mariposa de madera. Tanto Carmela como yo siempre, orgullosamente recordamos a nuestras raíces.
