Creative Interpretation

The overall image is surreal, and so is this mother’s story. The mixture of smooth and rough strokes embody the journey that takes place. I rendered the image of the nurturing mother with coarse strokes and vibrant colors. I tried to paint the color of her spirit with the marks of her struggle. The mother’s hand that grasps and protects her child is large and fantastic. Finding a way when there was none. Who knew from the desert a flower would grow? From one part hope, one part desperation, sprouting from the words of two friends: “Your child will soon run out of food.”
